heating issue

Greetings.

I hope I'm in the right place for this question.  The sub-headings are a little confusing and I don't see a Marquis Heaters sub.

Anyhoo.  Here's the problem.  It's a Leisure Series Mirage,  at least 10 years old and set-up on 220v.  intermittently but getting more common,  the heat won't come on by itself.  the thermo is set to 104 but frequently when I pull the cover the spa is down in the 90's and the heater hasn't kicked in.  If I turn on the pump manually at the control panel,  the heater indicator comes on and the spa heats at the expected rate of 5-6 degrees an hour.

I've tried to do some reading but it's still not clear to me what bit is responsible for kicking in the pump when the temp drops so that the heater can safely run?

Any and all advice appreciated.
