I have a slow leak that started I think a month ago. In the last two weeks I can notice the water level going down about 3 inches in two days. I looked behind the panels to see if I could find the leak. I noticed a consistent drip coming from a 4" pipe, looking to be connected to the main suction panel inside the tub itself. I had a repair guy come to look at it, thinking he could just apply a sealant on the outside of the tubing and he said that would not work as the sealant would eventually break due to chemicals in the water. He said he'd have to drain the tub, turn it on it's side and remove the suction housing and add a new one and seal that way. He said this could cost around $1000 depending on part costs and final time involved.
My question is twofold:
Can the leak be sealed with something added to the outside of the tubing coming from the tub? If so, what is the best sealant to use.
If what the repair guy said it would require sounds right, is the price for repair reasonable?
