Unlike the NBA or international formats, a different number of periods is played in college basketball. There are two 20-minute halves, rather than the four quarters that you play in high school and amateur basketball. It changes the game flow, coaching strategies, and the way fouls are handled. The game, however, is broken into four 10-minute quarters for women’s college basketball. Timeout, foul reset, and player rotation are all affected by the difference in periods. Fans and players of both college and professional basketball should understand this distinction.
